It is with a sense of huge loss we report the passing of Bob Barltrop, who died on Sunday 18th February 2024. Our thoughts are with his wife Hilary and children; Nikki, Philippa and Tom.

Bob was still heavily involved at Harpenden RFC as Discipline Secretary, a position he held for more years than anyone can remember! He had a sense of decency and fair play that was a perfect match for this role.

Bob’s introduction to HRFC came in 1993 as coach to the under 7’s. The team won the county championship at under 14’s in 2000 and Bob stayed with the team until they reached Colts.

Bob was also active on the pitch, playing for many years propping up front rows before becoming a highly respected Herts referee. He was, quite simply, a true gentleman and a great servant of the club. He will of course be missed for many years to come.

Bob’s funeral will be held on Tuesday 19th March at 11:30 at Hemel Crematorium, followed by a gathering at the Club.
