A club like ours thrives due to the enthusiasm of its volunteers and supporters. Few were as enthusiastic and passionate as “Scottish” Steve, as he was affectionately known by all who knew him. In a drive to get more senior players to training “The Man of Beef” was coined, a monthly steak night on a Thursday evening with an extra large piece of meat for the best trainer over the preceding weeks.
Who was the man to offer up his time to cook steak for all the lads? It was Steve.
His steak nights became the stuff of legend, often well over 50 people sat down to a perfectly cooked sirloin. His friendliness and generosity spread onto the terraces, where his unmistakable brogue could be heard encouraging both men’s and women’s teams in equal measure on match days.
Recently he left Harpenden to move back to his native Scotland to pursue his dreams of running a hotel and restaurant.
The thoughts of the club go out to his family and friends at this incredibly sad time.
